Focus on Reading, Writing, & Drawing

I earned a Master's degree in Curriculum & Instruction with emphasis in Literacy and a BFA in Toy Design. I have taught core subjects in 4th and 5th grades as well as art and technology to both elementary and middle school students. In addition, I am a published author and illustrator.
Presentations:

Presentations are created to meet the specific needs and learning goals in each school or library. They can include any combination of the following:
- Read aloud of FLAP (FLAP pages can be provided in pdf to be shown on a Smart Board)
- Information about my process of becoming a published writer and illustrator. (Great for any age)
- Lesson about using Prediction when reading any book. Students will make several predictions while I read the story of FLAP. (Great for Kindergarten and 1st graders)
- Story Building - Brainstorming together to create a unique story with beginning, middle, and end.
- - I'll teach students my secret to adding a twist to the plot. (Works well with 1st-4rd grades)
- - Revision: How to revise your story to improve language, flow, and details
- Trial and Error - Lesson about how the characters in FLAP used trial and error (Scientific Theory) to modifiy what they were doing and try again. Trial and error is commonly thought of in science class when conducting experiments but also works cross curriculum. Including but not limited to revising story and tightening drawings. This works well with the prediction lesson. (Great for 1st-2rd graders)
- Character Design - using drawing techniques to create characters. (Great for any age)
- 6 Traits of Writing - For 3rd-5th graders - I can teach a lesson on any of the 6 Traits; Ideas, Voice, Organization, Word Choice, Conventions or Sentence Fluency to specifically meet the needs of your class's curriculum. These lessons are hands on and will require student participation.
- Art Lessons - In addition to character design, as a professional illustrator, I can also teach Doodling with repetitive patterns, and Hand Lettering to Art classes.
- All presentations include Q and A.
